ARTICLES ABOUT MIC LEVINE: michael levine's IF YOU'RE SEARCHING FOR SOMEONE TO FILL THE seat as the next dynamic songwrlter of this new music age, all you have to do is peak around the corner, Michael Levlne has made a name for himself throughout the Southeast, making residence in Atlanta, slowly warming the hearts listeners with his appealing and engaging music. With grace and passion, Levine continues to grow into a mature artist, as evidence by his debut, Lines Between Us. The full-length is a captivating effort of catchy, enduring tunes. His new single, "Breakdown" is currently being aired on around 20 radio stations throughout the Southeast, and he's receiving wide acclaim for his power ballad, "Butterfly," which has also received radio airplay. His quiet demeanor as a person away from the stage shows his grace and humbleness in everyday life, though his vitality and energy in the spotlight displays quite a prominent musician at work. He currently hopes to draw more attention to his music on Lines Between Us, gaining more fans and listening support as he continues to venture outward. Though his songs on the initial album reflect the masterwork of his fretting and acoustic guitar virtuosity, and his ability to challenge the soul with dazzling hooks and poetic witticisms, Michael feels even more enthusiastic about his new work. Levine is tremendously focused on creating a fresh vibe into his material, working with several effects and pedals, and using an assortment of music software on a laptop, to create a more exhilarating live performance during his solo gigs. He loves to experiment and let the music evolve, creating many timbres and atmospheres and changing songs up for variety and fresh appeal. His circle of musical friends have offered him great support on Lines Between Us and are standing by for any future musical engagements. About his songwriting craft, Levine was very clear of his methods, but felt there are many ways for channeling the craft, as well as many different times and places. "The best songs come through you, not from you," Levine said. "I write best when I simply let It flow and don't let myself get in the way. Any song you're channeling from a Higher Source, if you will, is going to have magic and power in it. You have to listen to what a song is meant to be, and not try to make ft fit Into a particular genre, or hit format, etc. Of course, I write in many different ways, often just simply from my own life experiences. Levine is currently running his own label, Watertown Music, and hoping to make the most of opportunities that greet him. "I'd love a record deal someday, but with the changing music biz, and my independent nature, I'm more excited to keep on like I have been. Using the internet and various other tools, we're trying to avoid getting stuck in a big corporate environment. We're able to maintain artistic integrity and freedom, and we're always making progress." These are words well spoken and delivered with authority. With his boundless creative energy and artistic vision, Levine should have no problem reaching further heights of success in his ongoing musical journey. 22 SOUTHEAST PERFORMER July 2004
